Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home for intimate concerts enjoyed with friends old and new. That's been the operative assumption behind countless salons, soirees and loft concerts from times of antiquity to the present, and it's now the practical philosophy behind Spectrum, a new Lower East Side space run by Glenn Cornett: a composer and musician by avocation, a biomedical entrepreneur by occuption, a philanthropist by inclination and a familiar, friendly face at many a new-music concert in New York City.

As the article states, most news of Spectrum events circulates by word of mouth and via Facebook; I heard about the concert reviewed here from Michael Vincent Waller, the composer who helped to organize it, and who also runs an impressive avant-garde music series at the Ludlow Street rock club Pianos. Start here for a basic notion of what's going on at Spectrum…or just ask a plugged-in friend.
