Invisible touch.

Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, and the Latvian National Choir at the Kaplan Penthouse
The New York Times, November 15, 2010

Two concerts, one saxophonist I'm glad to have heard live at last, two excellent vocal groups and one hidden hand behind it all. I profiled Manfred Eicher, the founder and longtime head of ECM Records, for the Times last December, during one of those black-out periods in which blogging ceased. I've got plans to get those older pieces in a few large batches; meanwhile, the Eicher story is here. I'd also like to recommend Cori Ellison's terrific 2005 article about the Kalevala, the bellicose Finnish epic cited in my review of the Latvian National Choir.

Lincoln Center's White Light Festival continues tonight (Monday, Nov. 15) with Credo, which finds the Hilliard Ensemble and the Latvian National Choir joining members of Icelandic postrock band Sigur Rós and the Wordless Music Orchestra at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle. The concert is sold out, but you can listen to it live on the consistently surprising web-radio channel Q2, and participate in a live webchat while you're at it. Q2 will also archive the concert for your delayed gratification.
