The big chill.

DJ Spooky Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House
The New York Times, December 4, 2009

"I do not regret this journey; we took risks, we knew we took them, things have come out against us, therefore we have no cause for complaint."

From Captain Robert Falcon Scott's final journal entry, as quoted in the Epilogue of Ralph Vaughan Williams's Sinfonia Antartica.

One response to “The big chill.”

  1. Hey Steve – long time, hope you’re well.
It was a happy surprise to find your name on Alex Ross’ blogroll and then here was this link of all things. Miller brought this show to UT in the fall and right this minute I am just shy of laughing out loud thinking of my emotional response to it at the time, which was boredom that eventually gave way to hatred and crazy until I finally just got up and left during the Russian cinema.
And while my opinion of it hasn’t warmed since, thinking back to my state at the time suddenly makes all of those Parisians storming Stravinsky seem completely reasonable.
A friend asked about it later that evening and I snapped: “That show was proof that Paul Miller doesn’t have any real friends.” Absolutely crazy!
